“A Geometry of Taste”: Gastronomy meets Greek hospitality at Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia”

Fraport Greece celebrated World Tourism Day for the third consecutive year, with a unique culinary event at Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia,” in partnership with the Region of Central Macedonia, the Municipalities of Thessaloniki and Thermi, and the Thessaloniki Hotel Association.

Titled “A Geometry of Taste”, the event took place on Thursday, October 2, in the airport’s departures area. More than 1,500 visitors were welcomed to discover the flavours of Thessaloniki through emblematic local products presented in geometric forms. The result was an authentic gastronomic experience that showcased both the city’s culinary traditions and its cultural identity.

The theme of geometry drew on its deep Greek roots: originating in ancient Greece, geometry has long symbolised harmony and order. Similarly, Thessaloniki’s cuisine is expressed through shapes that evoke everyday life and collective memory, transforming local products into vessels of both culture and flavour. The event “A Geometry of Taste” demonstrated how tradition can be reimagined with creativity and a modern perspective, offering travellers a multi-sensory journey that combined authentic taste with cultural elements.

With initiatives like this, Fraport Greece and its partners aim to position Thessaloniki as a destination where history, culture, and gastronomy come together. At the same time, the event reinforced the connection between food, Greek hospitality, and the human dimension behind every journey — underlining Thessaloniki’s role as a vibrant metropolitan centre and “Makedonia” Airport as a vital gateway linking Greece to the world.

George Vilos, Executive Director of Commercial & Business Development at Fraport Greece, commented: “We are delighted to have once again celebrated World Tourism Day, for the third consecutive year, together with the city’s visitors at Thessaloniki Airport ‘Makedonia’. Thanks to the invaluable collaboration of local authorities and partners, we created a memorable event that brought together local gastronomy and Greek hospitality. At Fraport Greece, we remain committed to every opportunity that showcases the uniqueness of the Greek tourism experience.”
