Fraport Greece: Steady Increase of Passenger Traffic in 2025, The Evolution of the 14 Regional Airports, and the Need for Balanced Growth in Greek Tourism
Fraport Greece, the company responsible for the management and operation of the 14 regional airports across the country, hosted a media briefing for members of the press, themed “Balancing Growth Through Shared Purpose.” The event highlighted 2025 passenger traffic trends and examined both the opportunities and challenges facing Greek tourism, emphasising the need for balanced growth and effective collaboration among all stakeholders.
On behalf of Fraport Greece, Mr George Vilos, Executive Director, Commercial & Business Development, presented the key quantitative and qualitative features of traffic across the 14 regional airports. He noted that total passenger traffic during the first ten months of 2025 exceeded 35 million passengers, marking a 2.7% increase compared to 2024. A similar growth trend was observed in October 2025, which recorded a 3.7% increase in passenger traffic, with 125,303 more passengers than the corresponding month last year. Since the start of the company’s operation, the 14 regional airports have collectively welcomed more than 248 million passengers, significantly enhancing the country’s connectivity and contributing to the dynamic growth of Greek tourism.
A panel discussion followed, featuring Mrs Eleni Mitraki, Director for Tourism Promotion at the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO); Mr Aris Ikkos, Research Director at INSETE; and Mrs Christina Karampela, Managing Director of qed Social & Market Research. Moderated by Mrs Katerina Pollatou, Airline Marketing & Development Manager, Commercial & Business Development at Fraport Greece, the panel identified emerging tourism trends, opportunities and prospects in tourism and air transport, stressing the importance of cooperation, shared objectives, and maintaining a balance between growth and the preservation of local community characteristics.
