Among the new vehicles is the powerful Rosenbauer Panther 6X6 – the first of its kind at a Fraport Greece–managed airport

Fraport Greece, as part of its ongoing commitment to upgrading safety and emergency response services, announces the expansion of its firefighting fleet with the addition of 16 Rosenbauer 6X6 Buffalo vehicles and one Rosenbauer Panther 6X6. The vehicles are now being deployed across the regional airports managed by the company in Greece.

Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia” has recently welcomed the Rosenbauer Panther 6X6, marking the first of its kind to be introduced at a Fraport Greece–operated airport. Renowned for its cutting-edge technology and exceptional performance, the vehicle significantly enhances firefighting and rescue capabilities, representing yet another milestone in the continuous modernization of the regional airports.

In addition, Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia” has also received two new Rosenbauer type Buffalo 6X6 vehicles, a model that will also be deployed at 11 other airports under Fraport Greece’s management and operation. These advanced dual-cabin vehicles are designed to perform in the most demanding operational conditions. Equipped with full personal protective gear for the crew and featuring specialised compartments that carry modern firefighting and rescue equipment, they provide crucial support in both airport emergencies and on-site incident response.

With this latest investment, Fraport Greece continues to place safety and service quality at the core of its operations, ensuring the highest standards of protection for passengers, staff, and airport facilities.

Panagiotis Spyratos, Chief Operations Officer of Fraport Greece, stated: With the addition of 17 new firefighting vehicles, we are substantially strengthening the operational capacity of our airports, significantly upgrading firefighting and rescue capabilities with a fleet that now totals 61 vehicles.

This initiative is not an isolated investment, but part of a comprehensive strategic plan consistently implemented across the 14 airports we manage. The plan encompasses not only equipment modernization but also continuous staff training through drills and simulations of every scale, ensuring maximum preparedness.

In this context, we wish to express our sincere gratitude to our teams at all airports. Their dedication, passion, and outstanding service are the cornerstone of safe travel to millions of passengers each year. Thanks to their collective efforts, our investments translate into real value, transforming airports into modern gateways that consistently support Greek tourism and society.

All of these initiatives are carried out in close cooperation with public and private stakeholders. Together, we operate as one team with shared goals: safety, protection, and the continuous enhancement of the travel experience.
